An Unknown Variant Strain Newly Discovered in Germany

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, southern Germany, announced on the 18th that a variant strain of CoV-19 had been found in 35 confirmed patient samples. It is reported that this strain is different from any known variant strain. German authoritative research institutions are further analyzing this strain. The German Ministry of Health said on the same day that it would strengthen the virus sequencing and analysis in the country to better monitor the overall situation of CoV-19 mutation.

According to the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and Sü ddeutsche Zeitung and other media reports, the mutant strain had been found since an outbreak of clustered infection in a hospital in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Up to that day, 73 patients and staff in the hospital were infected with CoV-19, and 35 of them had been detected a mutant strain that had not been found so far.

Stockklausner, the person involved in charge of the hospital, said on the same day that three samples of mutant strains had been sent to the national laboratory of Berlin Sharit Medical College for analysis. He stressed that it is not clear whether this strain is more infectious than the currently discovered CoV-19 strain or whether it will lead to an increase in severe cases.
